Job Summary

As a member of the Prospect Research team, the Prospect Research Associate supports the Directors of Development in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations in its efforts to raise philanthropic dollars for the advancement of UT Dallas. The Prospect Research Associate will assess the philanthropic potential of prospects and donors for The University of Texas at Dallas. He/she will utilize industry best practices to grow the size and quality of the prospect pool, with an emphasis placed on major gift prospects. The Prospect Research Associate will produce analysis and briefings for development-related meetings, trips and events. In collaboration with the Assistant Director, Prospect Research, he/she will proactively identify and qualify prospects and analyze results.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree plus one to three years of experience in prospect research or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree and one to three years of prospect research experience or equivalent work experience.
Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other database applications, excellent verbal and written communication skills, customer service skills and previous nonprofit or fundraising experience.
Experience with Raiser’s Edge and related Blackbaud products is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Proactively identify, research and qualify prospective donors necessary to achieve fundraising goals, analyzing and compiling information using a broad range of data sources and techniques.
• Produce and update (as necessary) detailed research profiles and briefings including biographical data, institutional relationships, financial/net worth analysis, philanthropic interests, and natural partners on prospects and donors as requested by members of the fundraising team and senior university leadership.
• Analyze, synthesize and organize information from multiple sources and articulate findings clearly and concisely; prioritize and manage multiple assignments and high volume while meeting tight deadlines.
• Participate in prospect review and strategy sessions
• Effectively use the University’s database a and record keeping systems for information storage and retrieval while collaborating with database power users to maintain data integrity and information flow.
• Monitor industry, business, financial, and other news relevant to top prospects and share with colleagues as needed.
• Interpret financial data (stock, SEC filings, IRS filings and other complex financial disclosures), real estate and assessment data, philanthropy, and valuable collections.
• Stay current with and use emerging research protocols, techniques, subscriptions and tools to achieve results.
• Understand fundraising fundamentals; goals and prospect cultivation cycles; establish accurate capacity ratings.
• Maintain highest standards of discretion and confidentiality.
• Perform related duties as assigned
