Job Summary

The School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication (ATEC) at the University of Texas Dallas invites applications for open rank non-tenure stream faculty members with an outstanding record of teaching experience. ATEC is adding faculty members to expand its curriculum and research portfolio in the following areas: Design, Communication Studies, Critical Media Studies, Games, Animation, Mediated Communication, Network Cultures, Creative Practice, Art and Science, Public Interactives, Cultural Analytics, and STEAM education. Specific topics of interest include:
• Animation
• Art and science
• Computational media
• Cultural analytics
• Digital/multimedia journalism
• Digital narrative
• Disability studies in information communication technology
• Ethics, privacy, and policy in the era of pervasive computing
• Experience design in VR/AR/MR
• Experimental and emergent media formations
• Interaction design
• Locative media, mapping, and platform studies
• Media archeology
• Media architecture
• Media psychology
• Motion graphics
• Project management
• Visual studies and data visualization

Created in 2015, the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication merged two long-running programs at UTD: the program in Arts and Technology and the program in Emerging Media and Communication. As a School, ATEC serves more than 1,500 students, including 100 master’s students (MA and MFA) and 40 doctoral students. Students are taught to be conversant across the discourses of art / science / design / engineering / humanities. They are expected to gain foundational knowledge in multiple disciplinary areas of expertise. They learn how to engage with different modes of knowledge production, different methods of analysis, and different research and creative practices.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s degree in the academic discipline or in a related discipline is required; 1-3 years’ relevant industry or college-level teaching is also required.

Preferred Education and Experience

A terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in Arts, Communication, Cultural Studies, Game Studies, Literature, or other closely related area is preferred. Preference is given to applicants with at least two years’ excellent teaching experience at an institution similar to UT Dallas or extensive professional background in a closely related field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and teach courses as assigned.
Contribute to the School’s operations (such as creating course content and developing curriculum, participating in assessment activities, and serving on committees).
