Job Summary

The School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for an open rank tenure-line position in creative practice. Applicants’ research and teaching interests should engage critical theory while developing creative projects in the digital humanities or digital studies that reproduce culture over time and place; solve problems; interrogate questions of agency, capital, and structure; design innovative technology; or create new digital media arts.

The School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for an open rank tenure-line position in creative practice. The School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication was formed in 2015 through the merger of two long-running programs at UTD: the program in Arts and Technology and the program in Emerging Media and Communication. As a School, ATEC serves more than 1500 students, including 100 master’s students (MA and MFA), and 40 doctoral students. ATEC faculty include artists, designers, computer scientists, social scientists, cultural theorists, and reflective practitioners who seek to collaborate on intentional future-making through the creation of new cultural forms, the design of new technological experiences, the production of new knowledge, and the transformation of the culture industries. Students are taught to be conversant across the discourses of art / science / design / engineering / humanities. They are expected to gain foundational knowledge in multiple disciplinary areas of expertise. They learn how to engage with different modes of knowledge production, different methods of analysis, and different research and creative practices.

This search aims to help create a diverse faculty body and especially seeks applicants who contribute to equal opportunity here at UT Dallas. The selection process will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The search committee will not consider incomplete applications. Qualified applicants could receive a joint appointment in one of the program’s partnering Schools. The appointment for the position will begin August 1, 2017.

Minimum Education and Experience

Terminal Degree in the Academic Discipline or in a Related Discipline is required.

Preferred Education and Experience

A terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in Media Studies, Visual Arts, or closely related academic field is preferred. Preference is given to applicants with at least two years of excellent teaching experience at an institution similar to UT Dallas or extensive professional background in a closely related field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and teach courses as assigned, including content creation, assessment activities, and coordinating curriculum development).

Continue to expand professional influence in the academic discipline through exhibitions, research, publication, and service.
